Website Hosting
We do not resell hosting at a markup. The account is yours, the price is the provider’s price, and what you pay us for is the configuration and the monitoring.
Managed hosting from The Nexclick runs on UK or EU infrastructure with caching, daily off-site backups, monitoring and SSL configured. Accounts are set up in your name rather than resold through us, so you see the real cost and can leave without moving anything.
Is this you?
What usually prompts the call
- Your site is slow and you have been told the hosting is fine, without evidence.
- You do not know who your host is, or the account is in a former employee’s name.
- Your agency resells your hosting and you have never seen the underlying cost.
- You need UK or EU data residency for compliance reasons and cannot confirm you have it.
What we do
The actual deliverables
Things that appear on an invoice, not adjectives.
- Host selection against the actual workload
- Static sites, WordPress and applications have different requirements. The right answer varies from a CDN edge deployment to a managed VPS, and it is a technical decision rather than a price one.
- Accounts in your name
- You hold the account and pay the provider directly. We are added as a collaborator. No markup, no reselling, and nothing to untangle if you leave.
- Caching configured properly
- Page, object and edge caching set up to work together rather than against each other. Multiple overlapping caching layers is a common self-defeating setup.
- Off-site backups with restore testing
- Daily backups stored away from the server, and periodically restored to prove they work. A backup on the same server is not a backup.
- SSL, DNS and email records
- Certificates with monitored renewal, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured so your transactional email actually arrives.
- Monitoring and alerting
- Uptime, response time, certificate expiry and disk usage. Alerts within minutes rather than when a customer notices.
- Data residency where it matters
- UK or EU regions where compliance requires it, documented so it can be evidenced rather than assumed.
Decision tree
Is your hosting actually the problem?
Hosting gets blamed for slow sites far more often than it deserves. Work through these before paying to move — the first three account for most cases.
01Time to first byte is consistently under 600ms
Hosting is not your problem. The delay is in what the page loads — images, JavaScript, third-party scripts. Moving host will change nothing.
02Time to first byte is over 1.5 seconds on a simple page
Genuinely a server problem. Either the plan is undersized, the database is unindexed, or the host is oversold. Investigate before moving, since a bigger plan does not fix an unindexed query.
03The site is fast until traffic rises, then falls over
Capacity or caching. Usually caching is misconfigured rather than the server being too small, and that is cheaper to fix than to upgrade around.
04The site is fast in the UK and slow overseas
You need a CDN, not a different host. Adding one costs very little and solves this specifically.
05Performance varies unpredictably at the same traffic level
Likely an oversold shared server. This is the case where moving genuinely helps, and it is diagnosable rather than a matter of opinion.
06You cannot get support to respond when something breaks
Move, regardless of performance. Response time during an incident is worth more than a few milliseconds of speed.
07You need UK or EU data residency and cannot confirm you have it
Move, and get the region documented. Assumed residency is not evidence if a regulator or a client asks.
How it works
Step by step, with timeframes
Timeframes are typical rather than guaranteed, and they assume we get account access and approvals when we ask.
- 01Week 1
Assess the workload
Traffic patterns, peak load, application type and any compliance requirements. Determines the host rather than a default recommendation.
- 02Week 1
Provision in your name
Account created under your ownership, with us added as collaborator. You see the real invoice from day one.
- 03Week 2–3
Configure and migrate
Caching, SSL, DNS, email records and backups configured, then a planned cutover with lowered TTL.
- 04Ongoing
Monitor
Uptime, performance and certificate monitoring with alerting, reviewed monthly.
What you get
Reporting and ownership
- Hosting accounts in your own name, paid directly to the provider at the provider’s price.
- Caching, SSL, DNS and email authentication configured and documented.
- Daily off-site backups with restores periodically tested rather than assumed.
- Uptime and certificate monitoring with alerts within minutes.
- A written record of the configuration, so another provider could take it over.
Tools and platforms
- Vercel, Cloudflare, or a managed UK/EU VPS
- Cloudflare DNS & CDN
- Off-site backup services
- Uptime and certificate monitoring
- SPF / DKIM / DMARC configuration
Timeline
How long this actually takes
Two to three weeks including migration and DNS propagation. Ongoing after that. A point worth being direct about: hosting is where agencies most commonly add a quiet margin, reselling a £15 plan at £60 a month. We do not, and if you are currently paying an agency for hosting it is worth asking what the underlying account actually costs. It is also worth knowing that hosting is genuinely the constraint less often than it is blamed — if time to first byte is under 600ms, the problem is what the page is loading, not the server.
Pricing model
Monthly retainer
A small monthly management fee for configuration and monitoring. Provider costs are paid by you directly at their published price, with no markup from us.
Questions
Website Hosting questions
Do you resell hosting?
No. The account is in your name, you pay the provider their published price, and we are added as a collaborator. What you pay us for is configuration and monitoring. Reselling is common in the industry and it makes the real cost invisible to you, which is the reason it is common.
Is expensive hosting worth it?
Up to a point. The difference between very cheap shared hosting and a decent managed plan is substantial. The difference between a good plan and a premium one is usually marginal for a normal marketing site. Spend enough to get off oversold shared infrastructure, then stop.
How do we know our backups actually work?
Because they are restored periodically to a staging environment and checked. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption. This is the most common gap we find, and it is invisible until the day it matters.
Does hosting location affect SEO?
Barely, in itself — a CDN removes most of the latency argument. Where it does matter is data residency for compliance, and server response time, which feeds Core Web Vitals. Choosing a UK host for a UK audience is sensible without being a ranking strategy.
What happens to our email?
It usually lives elsewhere on the same domain, and it is handled as part of DNS. SPF, DKIM and DMARC get configured properly, because transactional email that lands in spam is a problem people discover weeks later through missing enquiries.
Can we leave without moving hosts again?
Yes — that is the point of the account being yours. If you stop working with us, we are removed as a collaborator and nothing else changes. Nothing is built in a way that makes leaving require another migration.
