Web Development

Sites built to be maintained, not just launched

Thirty services covering a first marketing site through to multi-tenant SaaS, plus the unglamorous work — migrations, malware removal, accessibility remediation — that keeps existing sites alive.

The Nexclick builds websites, ecommerce stores and web applications for UK businesses, on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Next.js and Laravel. Projects start from £4,500 and a straightforward marketing site takes six to ten weeks. You own the code, the hosting and the accounts at the end of it.

What this covers

The honest version

Most websites are not slow, insecure or unmaintainable because of a single bad decision. They get that way through twenty small ones: a plugin added to solve a problem nobody revisited, a page builder that generates six nested divs where one would do, a hosting plan chosen on price in 2019 and never looked at again.

The Nexclick builds on whichever platform genuinely fits — there is no house platform we push everyone onto. WordPress is right for a content-heavy site a marketing team edits daily. Shopify is right for most retail. Next.js is right where performance and custom functionality both matter. Laravel is right when the business logic will never fit a CMS. Being told which one suits you, and why, is part of the job.

Two commitments that are worth more than they sound. Everything is set up in your name — domain, hosting, repository, analytics — so leaving is always straightforward. And every build is handed over with documentation, because a site only one agency understands is a site you cannot leave.

Each one has its own page setting out deliverables, process, timescales and pricing model.

Who this is for

Sound familiar?

  • Your site was built five years ago, nobody knows how it works, and every change is quoted as a day.
  • The site is slow, and you have been told it is "the hosting" for two years running.
  • You need something the CMS was never designed to do — a booking flow, a portal, a calculator, an integration.
  • You are moving platform and want it done without losing the rankings and conversions you already have.
  • Something has broken, been hacked, or gone down, and you need someone who will actually pick up.

Who it is not for

When to spend elsewhere

  • You need a five-page brochure site for under a thousand pounds. A good template on Squarespace will serve you better, and we will say so.
  • You want the cheapest possible build. There is always someone cheaper, and the maintenance bill arrives later.

The Nexclick would rather lose the enquiry than take on work that will not produce anything. Saying so on the website costs less than saying it in month four.

Deliverables

What you actually get

Things that appear on an invoice, not qualities.

Discovery and technical scope
What the site must do, which integrations it needs, what the content model is, and where the edge cases hide. Written down before anyone designs a screen.
Design, or implementation of yours
We design it, or we build faithfully from what your designer produced. Either way you see it before it is coded, not after.
The build itself
Clean, commented, version-controlled code on a platform chosen for your situation. No page builder soup, no plugin doing a job forty lines would do better.
Performance built in from the start
Core Web Vitals in the green at launch, not retrofitted three months later when the rankings drop. Images, bundles and caching handled as part of the build.
Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA
Keyboard operation, contrast, semantic structure and labelled forms as standard. Retrofitting accessibility costs several times what building it in does.
Tracking and search continuity
Analytics configured and, on a rebuild, a full redirect map tested on staging. Losing rankings in a replatform is common, avoidable and expensive.
Handover, documentation and training
A recorded walkthrough, written documentation, and every credential transferred to you. You should never need us to change a phone number.

Process

How the work runs

Timeframes are typical rather than guaranteed, and they assume we get account access and content approvals when we ask for them.

  1. 01Week 1–2

    Scope

Requirements, content model, integrations and a fixed price against a written specification. Anything outside it is quoted separately before it happens, never absorbed and billed later.

  2. 02Week 2–4

    Design

Wireframes, then designed screens, with a review point at each. Structure gets agreed before anything visual, because reordering a page is cheap and rebuilding one is not.

  3. 03Week 4–8

    Build

Development on a staging environment you can see at any point. Fortnightly demos rather than a reveal at the end.

  4. 04Week 8–10

    Launch and settle

Cross-browser and device testing, redirects verified, then launch with daily monitoring for the first fortnight. Post-launch issues get fixed, not invoiced.

Reporting & ownership

What lands on your desk

  • A staging URL from week four, so you are never waiting to see progress.
  • Fortnightly demos with a written note of what changed and what is next.
  • Full repository access from day one — the code is yours while it is being written, not after.
  • Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals figures before launch, in writing.
  • A 30-day post-launch period where anything not working as specified is fixed at no charge.

Pricing

Where this starts

from £4,500

A designed and built marketing site, on a CMS you can edit, with tracking configured.

What moves it: Page count, integrations, whether ecommerce is involved, and how much content migration is needed.

Questions

Web Development questions we get asked

Eight specific to this service area. The general ones — contracts, ownership, timescales — are on the FAQ page.

WordPress, Shopify or a custom build — how do you decide?

By what the site has to do. Content-heavy marketing sites edited daily suit WordPress. Retail suits Shopify unless the catalogue or logic is unusual. Anything where performance and bespoke functionality both matter suits Next.js. If the business logic will never fit a CMS, it is Laravel or Node. The Nexclick has no house platform to sell you.

Will a rebuild damage our search rankings?

It can, and that is the single most common reason traffic collapses after a relaunch. It is also almost entirely preventable. We crawl the existing site before anything changes, build a one-to-one redirect map, test it on staging, and monitor daily for a fortnight after launch. Blanket redirects to the homepage are how equity gets thrown away.

Can we edit the site ourselves afterwards?

Yes, and it is designed for that. Content, images and page structure are editable without touching code, and you get a recorded walkthrough plus written documentation. If a change genuinely needs a developer, we will have told you that during scoping rather than after.

What does ongoing maintenance actually involve?

Core and plugin updates applied and tested rather than auto-applied and hoped for, daily backups held off-site, uptime and security monitoring, and a named person to contact when something breaks. Sites without this do not stay working; they stay working until they suddenly do not.

We already have designs. Will you just build them?

Yes, and it usually saves money. We will raise anything that will not work in practice — a layout that breaks at 320px, a font licence that does not cover web use, a form with no error states designed — but the design decisions remain yours.

How do you handle hosting?

Managed UK or EU hosting with caching, backups and monitoring configured, in your account rather than resold through us. You see the real cost, and if you leave, the hosting simply stays where it is. We will also happily work with hosting you already have, provided it is not the cause of the problem.

What if we need something added after launch?

Quoted against the same specification, or covered under a maintenance retainer if it is small. Because the build is documented and version-controlled, later changes are a known quantity rather than an archaeology exercise — which is precisely why undocumented sites get expensive over time.

Do you take over sites built by someone else?

Yes, and we will give you an honest assessment first. Sometimes the right answer is that remediation costs more than a rebuild, and we would rather tell you that up front than bill six months of patching a site that was never going to be salvageable.
